I vanished for a while and have not detected for almost half a year....
Got my life sorted and back into it full steam again
So far the strike rate for the ever so elusive gold has not been bad....3 golds in the 6 trips
First trip out was a night detect at Waiake Bay and came away with this 9ct signet ring
Gold no.2 Came from the water at Taka with Max...a small but realtively heavy(5-6g) 22ct signet ring
And no.3 was this morning from Cheltenham....a dainty plain band(from the colour I would gues maybe 14ct
Thanks Chris for leaving that behind :))...I see on your blog you were there yesterday....I will be in touch with you sometime soon....need to get a spare battery for my Excal
And the two ugly Silvers deserves a pic I suppose
HH:))
A blog about some Metal Detecting Trips and Finds in New Zealand. We go Water Detecting mainly but also do some old spots depending on our research. Have to try and keep track of all the 'hunts' :)

Finally...A long handle Sand/Beach/Water Scoop
I couldn't bring myself to pay the extravagant amounts asked for Scoops
from overseas,so I decided to attempt my own :)
Scoop measures 6inches(w) and about 4-5inches(h) and 8-9inches(d)
I searched and found some stainless sheet with holes in already
Cut the templates myself at home and took it down to a local factory who did the welding
professionally for next to nothing
I am quite pleased with the result :)

Finally...Something Worthwhile Posting
Have not had much luck in the last few outings, but I went out yesterday and got a bit of everything :)
Some Small Badges
A few Silvers
And The GrandPrize for the day...
An Antique Rose Gold ring from the 1920s-1930s
Unfortunately it is not a natural Ruby as it is a 5ct stone...but hey...I can dream a little :):)
It has a makers mark but it is too worn to make it out

The Silver Magnet works Really well :):)
Didn't find any Silver coins today but some nice Sterling Jewellery made up for it.
Here's an icon from the eighties
KITT from Knight Rider
A really weird big sinker....from nowhere near the beach

Big Old Silver and a Antique Thimble
The Sterling Thimble and 1912 UK Half Crown came from the same site
The Half Crown was pretty much as deep as the detector would pick it up with a VDI reading,I
almost gave up thinking it was large deep rusted iron, filled the hole back in after not being able to find anything with the pinpointer the first time.....I decided to rescan and it was still picking up a feint high reading
so I dug again and after going slightly deeper than the length of the pinpointer I found it :)
Must say I was quite happy that I listened to my gut feeling and kept going.
