Going through my 'Junk Jewellery Jar' and discovered 7 Silvers

Was not in the mood to go out today and thought I would go through my Junk Jar
Turns out that it wasn't all Junk :):):)

I should have taken before and after Pics as these pieces of Silver were black/copper/brown/green/encrusted/corroded etc.and some of them must have been in the sea for a veeeeeery long time as they are like half the original weight/thickness I would guess

Even Steel wool could not revive them properly but hey it's Silver

  1. It could be your lucky day today.

The sea must be quite acidic round your way from the looks of that corrosion.

    1. Can't remeber exactly where the rings were found....they are from last year....pretty sure it was just Auckland and North Shore Beaches

  2. i tell ya - about 2-3 years ago i have found a rinng on the road run over by cars. - thought it was crap as i couldnt see marking.
it looked all scratched and missing a stone. (FK. why i didnt look for stone that time)

Just about 2 weeks ago when i was going through my box of jewelry with new magnifying glass.

    And oh my GGG.......

the ring was 950 platinum with 0.29 carat diamond! FK.....

Lesson - always check all items carefully, always pick up random scrap on the road- as it might be gold/silver/platinum ring :-)

  3. Can't say that I've been that lucky to pick up a ring like that off the road....but then I don't really inspect the trash on the road :):)

  5. I've all ways zapped any ring I figure is junk just in case, but even then I think going through the junk jewellery box is well overdue. Must do it sometime.

Electrolysis is a much easier way to clean those encrusted rings instead of steel wool, the gunk just falls away.

Max - just don't become a headline: "Man with metal detector seen zig zagging on the Southern Motorway searching for gold & platinum" :)
